Getting back to basics

I’m currently on vacation — and wasn't planning to write a post this week, which is why it is late — but I stumbled upon something basic yet revolutionary for me that I wanted to share. I am definitely late to the game, but I am glad to have stumbled upon them now more than ever.

RSS feeds are amazing. Really Simple Syndication is a standardized format that allows applications to access website updates. Essentially, this primitive—yet incredibly valuable—feed can let you follow practically everything in the digital world. Whether it be social media platforms (e.g., YouTube), news channels, or other forms of content. The best part is that you can filter content (e.g., I have filtered out most short-form content) and decide how much algorithmic sorting you want. Meaning you can decide to have an algorithm sort your content, or you can have it in chronological order.

Inoreader, Feedly, and NewsBlur are apps that can help you aggregate all these feeds into one place. No more checking a bunch of different platforms. No more getting force-fed content. Pick what you want, pick how you want to receive it, and enjoy.

Super quick one, but wanted to spread the word. I am a fan of new technology and like trying out the latest things. Yet, sometimes, all along, all you needed was something that has been around for a long time.

Take care,

Emanuel
